Sparta's justice system
Athens and Justice SystemIn Athens, people followed the Draconian and Solonian code of laws. In 621 BC, Draconian made the laws. He said that any crime, big or small, was punished by death. Dracon thought that in a person with a small infraction, punished by death, would receive no less of a punishment than a person that committed a big crime. Then, Athens decided the wanted something newer and better, and they thought that Solon would be the man to do it. Mainly, the rich were worried about getting the debts owed to them, and the poor were worried about paying the debts they owed. Originally, if a poor person couldn't pay their debt, the person the debt was owed to could drag them in front of a rich man and convince him that the poor had done wrong and to kill him. Solon got rid of that way and made something else. Neither sides got what they wanted. If a poor person couldn't pay his debt, then the society would have to help him, to make sure the rich got him money. That way, the poor would be alive and the rich would have his money.
